Te Aho Tū Roa, kaupapa embraces Māori culture, language and wisdom. Through our partner Toimata Foundation we are supporting both Te Aho Tū Roa and Enviroschools. Our funding has assisted a series of Kai Māori Papamahi/Workshops in Te Tairāwhiti/East Coast. The events are for whānau and community to explore traditional Māori kai and its role in hauora/health. Workshops involve sharing knowledge (e.g. techniques for harvesting/growing, storage, preparation) and the traditional pūrakau/stories from the area – a window into the old knowledge.
This is a collaborative project involving:
- Te Aho Tū Roa (the Poutautoko role employed by Toimata).
- Te Whare Hauora o Te Aitanga Hauiti (Provides a wide range of health education and promotion services within the Tairawhiti area).
- Taniwha Connections (Environmental Conservation Organisation).
We loved how this involves the wider community and is already a very collaborative project focused on sharing knowledge about the benefits of so many of our natural resources and kai.
